I-Mate release new smartphones under the JAMA series

I-Mate, a Dubai based Windows Mobile provider recently unveiled the i-mate JAMA 101 Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone and JAMA 201 Windows Mobile 6 Standard smartphone.

JAMA 101 details:

- GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 900/1800/1900 MHz
- Bluetooth
- No WiFi and 3G
- 2.4" 65K TFT touchscreen
- Samsung CPU at 300 MHz
- 128 MB of ROM and 64 MB RAM, can be extended by microSD memory cards.
- 2 megapixel autofocus camera with flash for photos and videos
- 150 hours standby time, 4 hours talk time

JAMA 201 details:

Samsung SGH-i617 aka BlackJack II

TouchPal virtual keyboard for Windows Mobile released - with super effective T+ technology

TouchPal is an innovative software keyboard based on T+, which significantly improves the inputting experience on touchscreens of handheld devices. Check out the Youtube video below for a quick tour of the product.



It's impossible to achieve 300 chars/min as shown in the video.

Typing on TouchPal is pretty easy: you just need to tap and slide by your thumb. In most cases, you only need to tap tap tap and use the auto-word predition to input the right word; in other cases, you can slide left/right for a specfic letter, slide up for uppercase, or slide down for a punctuation.

Samsung SGH-i640

Samsung SGH-i640 features Windows Mobile 6 Standard, triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and singleband UMTS/HSDPA and a 2 megapixel main camera. Furthermore the i640 features a 2.4" QVGA screen, the slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the Trackwheel navigation, Bluetooth 2.0 (most likely +EDR), USB 2.0 and a microSD card slot; specs which are the same to the SGH-i620.

Samsung SGH-i780 at Dubai Gitex 2007

During Gitex 2007 trade show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, several interesting devices were presented, but some of them were no so widely publicized as the other. Interestingly a completely new Samsung phone - Samsung SGH-i780 - was also presented there!

Intel demos iPhone-like MID of the future

Intel started busting out prototypes from its forthcoming Menlow chipset, using smaller, 45nm Silverthorne CPUs, and the 2009/2010 offering Moorestown... which you're looking at in these photos is based on. In a rather obvious homage to the iPhone, the chip-kingpin presented this do-anything, go-anywhere MID (provided you can cram this French-bread-sized device into a pocket). The device will feature a 45nm CPU as well, plus all kinds of goodies like integrated WiFi and WiMAX, and apparently 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. Obviously, this product will probably never see the light of day (at least not in this form factor), but then again -- you never really know.

HTC TyYN II Review

HTC TyTN II is now on sale and with tilted display and built-in GPS it is replacing HTC TyTN (i.e. HTC Hermes) as a most powerful pocket-able phone from HTC... First, since the TyTN II has TouchFLO, as made popular by the HTC Touch, you can use the device with one hand and one finger. You can flick your finger across the screen to scroll or pan through anything, and you can use an on-screen software based keyboard for input. This type of usage has recently been popularized by the Apple iPhone. Second, you can also use a stylus with the touch screen for more accurate interaction and handwriting recognition.

One nice little surprise in the TyTN II is the "Print via Bluetooth" command that shows up in a number of programs. It does not show up in the Office programs, but it does work in the Calendar, Contacts, Pictures, and Messaging programs. If you want to print other types of files to a Bluetooth Printer, you'll need to purchase some 3rd party software.

O2 is Apple's exclusive carrier in UK

Ending months of intense, practically insane speculation, Apple just confirmed its first European carrier for the iPhone: O2 is scoring exclusive UK rights to the hotly contested device, and will be launching it on November 9th for £269 including VAT. Unlimited data comes standard with the £35, £45 and £55 voice plans, which include 200, 600 and 1200 minutes, respectively, and 200 SMS for the cheapest plan, but 500 messages for the other two. Carphone Warehouse is being pulled in to beef up retail presence for O2, with 1300 retail locations, each with an "expert" on the iPhone. Naturally, Apple's not doing anything fancy here, and is announcing the same old EDGE phone we know and love here in the States -- shattering the 2007 3G pipe dreams of millions of Europeans -- but has made up for it slightly by scoring free WiFi for O2 iPhone users at the 7,500 hotspots serviced by Cloud in the UK. Those hotspots will certainly come in handy when trapesing through O2's EDGE-deficient network -- only 30% of the country will be covered by launch time. Of course, if you aren't keen on Visual Voicemail or Apple's blessing, there are certainly plenty of unlocked iPhones to be had between now and launch.
